Bill is a native of Winnipeg and has lived in all of the provinces of Canada west of Quebec. Prior to being called to Ordained ministry in the United Church he was a lawyer for 20 years and an active layperson within both the congregation and the wider United Church. From that time, he knows firsthand the opportunities for personal growth that present themselves with a ministry of all believers. Moving to Spruce Grove is a homecoming of sorts as Bill lived in Edmonton between the ages of 4 and 7. He has always been an Edmonton Eskimos fan; even during the 10 years when he lived in Riderville. He fondly remembers the Eskimos 5 Grey Cups in a row but didn’t speak of that when he lived in Saskatchewan.
Bill enjoys walking and playing bridge and pool. He would welcome any invitation to play pool in Spruce Grove. He follows all sports and in particular baseball, football, and hockey. He readily admits that he is addicted to reality TV.
Bill comes to St. Andrew’s United Church after having been in ministry as Executive Secretary of Saskatchewan Conference for 10 years and Alberta and Northwest Conference for 2 years. He has long yearned for a return to congregational ministry and is eager to journey in ministry with the folk in Spruce Grove.
Bill is a believer in the importance of relationship, community, and the ministry of all believers. He believes in the value of each and every person. This leads to the mission and outreach activities to which all of humanity and the church are called.
Bill also believes that, when discerning God’s will in the world and in the church and in our lives, each of scripture and tradition, and our experience, and reason have to be considered. His understanding of God is relational and as such he believes that all of humanity is in relationship with God and in relationship and in community with each other and with all of creation.
In spite of our differences we each need to be continuously in dialogue as we attempt to discern God’s will. The realm of God, for which we wait as Christians, will come to this world after we welcome all to the table; including those who have been and continue to be marginalized in the world in which we live.
May it be so!
